Quick and Easy Gift Idea

Recently a friend and I had to come up with a gift idea for Mother's Day
that we could quickly and easily make for around 30 ladies.

That's not necessarily an easy task when trying to keep it low cost, too.

Here's what we did--
it's a great idea if you need to make several gifts--
perhaps for Teacher Appreciation.

It's a recipe card holder
made from a binder clip!

It could also act as a photo or gift card holder.

We got the binder clips at the dollar store; they came six to a pack.

Then we cut small strips of paper to cover the bottom (black) part of the clip 

and attached the paper with Mod Podge.

For a finishing touch, we added a little bow to each clip using a glue gun.

We only spent money on the clips. The paper and bows I already had on hand.

Even if you have to buy some, the amount of paper and ribbon needed is so little that this project would still be very affordable.

We added a "recipe card" with a poem and placed a gift card behind that.

Here's what the poem says:

Recipe for Life

Ingredients needed: 

1 cup good thoughts

1 cup consideration for others

1 cup kind deeds

3 cups forgiveness

2 cups well-beaten faults

4 cups prayer and faith

tears of joy, sorrow, and sympathy

Directions: Mix good thoughts, consideration, kind deeds, forgiveness and well-beaten faults. Add tears of joy, sorrow, and sympathy for others. Fold in prayers and faith to lighten other ingredients and raise the texture to great heights of Christian living. Pour all into your family life. Bake well with the heat of human kindness. Serve with a smile!

Quick, cheap, and easy.

Mini Album Monday #53- A Mother's Album

Here is an album that I made one year around Mother's Day.

I can't tell you how much I enjoy going back and reading these memories.

I made it using a 7 Gypsies portfolio.

I've made many mini albums over the year featuring my boys with various family members,

but this is the only one of them with me.

The album opens up to reveal the interior pages.

The inside cover has an envelope to hold extra mementos

 (that's a paint chip on the envelope to give it a pop of color).

The intro page is a piece of a pre-printed list pad that says, "Note to Self."

The first page recites a poem about a parent's love for her child.

The star in the lower right corner is just punched out with a star punch.

The page on the right is three small envelopes attached to one another and facing sideways.

The inside tags have cute stories about my boys.

 On the left, there is a matted piece of pattern paper-

 this is what is holding the three envelopes together.

 On the right is another larger envelope with it's opening to the right.

I placed a photo inside of it.

The next page is a small paper bag. 

Inside it, I tucked a narrow paint chip with journaling written on it.

This page is a portion of a baseball card holder. 

It holds one photo and two journaling cards on this side. . .

. . . and  two photos and one journaling card on the backside.

The page on the right is a large playing card with a circle piece of cardstock 

that has journaling written on it.

I placed a photos on the backside of the playing card.

The pink page on the right cut in the shape of a file folder and has more memories written on it.

The last page of the book is half a manilla envelope with lace stapled to the top of it.

I placed two tags cut from pattern paper into it.

On the inside of the back cover, I placed these four pieces of pattern paper that were cut at angles.

I adhered around the outer edges so they could act as pockets.

I placed photos peeking out and little tags with journaling.

That's it! It is truly a treasured keepsake.

Last Minute Mother's Day Gift

My mom loves framed quotes. Her kitchen walls are nearly covered in them.

So I figured what better gift is there to give her for Mother's Day?

 

 

I made her one.

 

The beauty of this present is that it only takes a few minutes to make.

Find a quote that you like and print it: you should be able to find one on Pinterest or even Google "Free Mother's Day Quotes."

Get a cute frame.

Insert quote.

Done.

There are other framing options to display a cute quote - you could use an old silver platter, place it on a clipboard, place it on a decorative tray, or adhere it to a piece of wood like this.

I'd like to wish you all a Happy Mother's Day!

 

 

May we all always remember what a blessing it is to be a mom.

Mother's Day Gift Idea- "Lessons From Mom" Mini Album

     Remember all those things your mom used to say to you, like. . . "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all," "Chew with your lips together," and "Beggars can't be choosers"?
     Here's an idea where you can capture these sayings in one collection and give it to mom for Mother's Day.

 

 

You're going to want to sit down and think about her sayings.

(Some of these things you probably tell your kids!)

Then gather up photos of the two of you- they don't have to be recent. Choose them from all different time periods.

 

 

You can use a pre-made mini album or see my directions below to make one like this.

 

I used photos of my mom and me from throughout my life.

The intro page says, "Growing up, my mom taught me many lessons- some she told me, some I learned from watching her. Here are a few of those lessons. . . "

 

You will want to alternate photos on one side with quotes

 on the opposite sides.

 

 

I made this album out of 16 Chili's coasters.

I chose some coordinating papers and covered one side of all the coasters.

Then I cut 14 one inch pieces of ribbon.

I laid eight coasters paper side down and used scotch tape to adhere the ribbons to the coasters.

Then I laid the other eight coasters on top of those- so the backsides were to each other.

I adhered them using double sided tape.

That way I had a two sided book.

 

 

I used dry brushing along the edges of the coasters.

I also used tiny flowers to accent some of the quotes.

 

I got my quotes from this box of quotes.

I've had these for some time, so I don't know if you can still find them.

As an alternative, you can type and print your own quotes.

 

The album stretches out to be eight coasters long.

 

 

I used both the fronts and the backs.

 

 

The last page says, "Thanks Mom for being you and for teaching me to be me."

 

Here are the quotes I used in case you need some ideas:)

Work never hurt anybody.

The more you scratch it, the more it's going to itch.

Share your toys.
