Mini Album Monday #70- Valentine's Day Album

There's a gift you can give your spouse or kids that truly is the gift that keeps on giving. . .
a mini album listing what you love about them.
And Valentine's Day is the perfect time to do it.

Here's a simple album I did doing just that.

The cover is a partial heart cut out of red cardstock.

I printed the title out on my computer,
then used a decorative punch along the bottom edge of the strip.

The book is bound with rings and the pages are just white cardstock.

I used five pieces which gave me ten pages-- just enough to list 10 things that I love about my hubby.

For my journaling, I used my handwriting and cut it into strips.

I used bits and pieces of pattern paper on the different pages.

I kept the embellishments simple.

I used photos of my hubby alone, of the two of us, and some with our boys.

The back cover is a plain piece of chipboard.
I added two stamps to it.

I finished it off by adding a few pieces of ribbon on the office rings.

This was a very simple album and would be easy to make your own.

Valentine Craft Round Up

I love Valentine's Day.

I think it's great to have a holiday that celebrates those we love.

Vintage Valentine Banner DIY

Banners are so easy to make.
Here's one I made for Valentine's Day using vintage Valentines,
book pages, old playing cards, and dollar store doilies.

The secret to making a garland is making it nice and full.

You can do it in steps. 

Watch how easy it is. . .

The first thing you need is a word.

I made my letter panels out of old book pages and large letter stickers.

I trimmed my pages into rectangles, then stacked them and cut a notch out of the bottoms.

Then I added the letters.

I folded the top over a piece of lace and stapled each piece on.

Then I used doilies in between the book page pieces.

I alternated round white doilies with red heart shaped doilies.

I used small clothespins to attach these to the lace.

Next, I added some playing cards overlapping the doilies.

(I used all hearts since this is for Valentine's Day.)

The cards had a pretty red and white vintage pattern on the backsides,

so I alternated using both sides of the cards.

Sometime ago, I picked up some vintage Valentines at an estate sale.

I placed these on the red heart doilies.

I attached them to the clothespins that were already holding the doilies.

Finally I added a string of red pom pom trim.

I think it gave it a nice finishing touch.

You can follow these steps to make any kind of garland.

Just replace the Valentines with photos for a birthday garland

or Christmas cards for a holiday banner

or even vintage postcards for a summer bunting.

Valentine's Day is only 19 days away,
so let's look at some darling finds that will get you feeling all prime for the holiday. . .

This Valentine's Ephemera Pack is making me drool!

It could be used for so much- any paper crafting project, a scrapbook page, a banner,

 or even placed in a cute Valentine's centerpiece.

I think this is a fantastic idea.

It's 365 days of love notes.

All you have to do is print them off, cut them, and put them in a jar.

So sweet.

This heart garland is so cute!

I love the mix of flower print with text.

Aren't these wooden love blocks beautiful?

They'd be great not just for Valentine's décor, but would also look cute sitting

 in a family photo arrangement.

Cork Heart DIY

If you've got some corks and a glue gun,

 here's a quick project you can whip up for Valentine's Day.

This cork heart is cute and easy to make. 

Start with an 8 1/2"x 11" piece of paper and fold it in half.

Draw half a heart on it- just like we used to do in elementary school.

Then cut along the line and you'll have a heart.

This will be the template for our cork heart.

 Start by placing one cork at the top of the heart. Then, using a glue gun, glue along 

one edge of each cork and press it up against the previous cork.

Keep going while following along the edge of your template.

For the very last cork, I placed glue on two opposite sides and slid it in sideways in between the two on either side- so I wouldn't get glue along the tops of the corks.

 Your heart is done!

 I let mine sit for a few minutes until all the glue was set.

If you're wondering why I have so many corks, 

it's because I bought this huge container of them at an estate sale.

Now it's ready to set out on a shelf.

By the way, everything in this arrangement was a second hand purchase -

 the globe, the books, the basket- even the wooden spools in the basket!

I think it's cute enough that it can sit out not just for Valentine's Day, but all the time!

Heart Garland Made with Vintage Maps

I love making garlands.
They're usually so easy to put together.
Today I am sharing one that I made using pages from a vintage atlas.

I followed the tutorial that I found here to turn the strips of atlas into this heart garland.

Here's a close up of the individual hearts.

They're all attached at the tops and bottoms.

Cute, huh?
This is one of those projects that you can do while watching TV with the kids.

Thirfty Thursday #108

I had a long stretch where I hadn't been to an estate sale, and now I have a long stretch

where I've been to several. Yay, me.

Today I'm going to show you purchases from three different estate sales- all worth going to even though I only found a couple of items at each.

 

First off, isn't this bowl one of the most beautiful pieces you've ever seen?!?

It was priced $7, so I initially left it alone. Then I found out that it was the last day of the sale and everything was 25% off, so I splurged and paid $5.25 for it.

I'm so glad I did. I think it's soooooo pretty!

 

I spotted these vintage Valentines in a glass case- why they were in there, I don't know.

Anyway, I picked them up for $3 after the discount.

There were two packs, so I bought both of them.

I'm not for sure what I'm going to do with them, but I'm sure I'll come up with something

by next Valentine's Day:)

 

The next two items, I picked up when I went back on the last day to the estate sale

I talked about last week.

I liked this old camera. I got this. . .

 

and all these photos for $3.

Bargain!

My favorite photo is the one in the upper right corner of the three boys. Isn't it cute?

 

One Thursday afternoon right after my hubby got home from work, he ran me out to a nearby town to an estate sale of a collector (the ad said so).

I wasn't impressed with the prices- they were way too high.

 I picked up three expanding rulers and these old Uno scorecards for $5. I used to play Uno when I was little, and I don't remember scorecards. . .

Mini Album Monday #23- "10 Things I Love About You" Album

Over the years I've made my hubby several mini albums as gifts.
I have to admit, though, that I haven't made him one in quite some time.
Fast forward to today- I'll show you the one I made him for Valentine's day.

It's made from a file folder.

   

 

I started by folding the file folder. I followed the instructions found here.

 

 

I only used two pieces of 12"x 12" pattern paper- and not even whole pieces- to make this.

I trimmed the first to fit on each of the outer panels.

 

 

Then I trimmed the second to fit on only the lower portion of the interior pages.

I plan to add photos up top, so I didn't bother to put any paper there.

 

 

I put a photo on each panel.

 

Then I added tags in each pocket,

 and journaling spots on the bottom portion of the pockets.
I added one reason to each tag and each journaling spot for a total of
10 things that I love about my hubby.

I went through and added embellishments

 

 to both the photos and the journaling cards.

 

Finally, I added my title.

 

To keep the book closed, I used a piece of ribbon.

 

This is a very easy book to make and it doesn't require much to make it.

It sure would make a delightful Valentine's Day gift for your hubby, your kids,

or even for grandparents.
