Vintage Photo Garland

You know how I love vintage stuff, right?
I also love photos- I'm an avid photographer (not necessarily a good one). I think it's so important to document life in photos.
Anyway, recently I became a proud owner of a whole lot of beautiful old photos.
I knew just what I wanted to do with them. . .

turn them into a garland!

See the photo garland at the top of this arrangement?
I thought they'd look great in front of my lace garland.

I used small clothespins and pinned them to a twisted strand of tiny pearls, lace, and twine.
Then I tied strips of muslin in between the photos.

Here's a close up view.

Aren't the photos lovely?

What do you think?
You could also use current photos to do this. As a matter of fact, it would be a cute way to show off photos for a birthday party!
If you like this, you may also like this project of a photo mobile that features vintage photos.
Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Vintage Block Photo Holders

Today I have a cute and unique idea for displaying baby pictures. . .

turning vintage blocks into photo holders.

These are super easy to make.
All you need are a few blocks (mine are old ones that I've found at the thrift store, but this project would work with new ones, too),
small clothespins (mine are 1"- you can find small clothespins in the wood section at Hobby Lobby),
and a glue gun

Just glue the clothespins to the backs of the blocks.
As soon as they cool, they're ready to go!

These could be used for so many things:
displaying photos in a nursery
labeling food dishes at a baby shower
photo display at a toddler's birthday party
a gift for a preschool or daycare teacher
a new baby gift

Cute and easy!

I've got a fun project coming up on Monday. Please stop back by and make sure you jot down something you're thankful for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as we'll be needing that on Monday:)

Have a lovely weekend. Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

A Banner to Sing About

I love buntings- also known as banners or pennants. I see lots of different ones throughout the Blogosphere, but I don't usually take the time to make one myself.
Well, I'm helping to decorate for a music themed graduation party, and I thought that a bunting would be a cute and easy decoration that I could make . . . out of sheet music!

Here's what I came up with.
It was very easy.
In case you haven't noticed, easy is my middle name!

If you'd like to make one, here's what you need:
sheet music (or map paper or scrapbook paper- I got mine at a thrift store)
paper trimmer
hole punch
twine
piece of cardstock or other stiff paper measuring 7"x 5 1/2"

First, take your cardstock and make a fold at one of the short ends.

Open it back up and you should see a fold mark. You need to make a diagonal cut from the top right corner to the center mark at the bottom.
Do it again on the left side.

You will be left with a triangle.

Use this as your template to cut however many triangles that you'd like on your banner.
I made one with fifteen triangles and a second one with twenty triangles.
To make wise use of my paper, I placed the first triangle at the top left of my piece of sheet music. Then I used the bottom right piece that was left to make another triangle. Yes, that means that some of my music notes are upside down on the triangles, but I figure nobody will be looking that hard. And I hate to waste paper:)

Then punch holes in the two corners along the short end of the triangles. Sheet music is very thin, so you should be able to stack several pieces together for this step.

Then string each triangle onto the twine and tie the twine off at the ends.

TA-DA! Pretty cute, huh?

Just a thought: if you string this on red/white/blue ribbon instead of twine, it would make a great Fourth of July decoration!

This would be cute for party decor, but would even work just to hang in your house. It was so easy, I think I'll make a few to hang around my house. Living with all these boys, I always enjoy a pretty thing here and there:)

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Cupcake Toppers

Just last week, one of my co-workers asked if I could find pink cowboy boot cupcake toppers for an upcoming baby shower. I was stumped. I mean, I bake and craft, but I don't usually combine the two.
After racking my brain for some kind of idea, I decided to Google it, and I found the perfect toppers.

I ordered a digital set from this Etsy site for only $3.
It's a great shop- they have all kinds of different themed sets.

I downloaded the file and printed it on photo paper.
Then I used my 1 7/8"circle punch to punch them out.
I also cut out 2"pink circles to use as mats. Once I glued the images to mats, I used hot glue to attach them to lollipop sticks (that I got from Hobby Lobby for $2).

The toppers looked so cute sticking out of the pink and brown cupcakes.
They really complemented the girly western theme.

This is a super easy and affordable way to dress up a party.
So, even if you're not a crafty food kind of gal, you can still create darling treats for a party.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Birthday Party Decor Ideas

My hubby celebrated his 40th birthday this weekend. I surprised him with a party. We don't have a lot of money to spend, so I came up with some thrifty decorating ideas, and I thought I'd share.

I knew I needed to keep the party low-key. My hubby isn't a show-y kind of fella. So I just used a few decorations and had the party at church after Sunday evening service.
We attend a small church and have wonderful friends there, so I couldn't think of a better place- or group of people with which- to celebrate.

My hubby has several hobbies - one of them being reloading (bullets). So I bought a pack of shooting targets at Walmart for $3, picked up a few pieces of glassware at my local Dollar Tree, and borrowed some empty brass from my hubby's supply. I was able to keep the price of my decorations right at $20.
I cut a couple of the targets in half and used Mod Podge to attach them to pillar candles.
Then I used some of his brass and shotgun shells to sprinkle on the glass plate around the candle.
For a couple of the shorter glass candle holders, I cut up old gun ads (from a reproduction Sears Roebuck catalog) and used Mod Podge to attach them to the front and back of the candle holders. Then I filled them with empty brass bullets (not loaded).

Here are the other two pillar candles covered with targets.

I used a few of the targets and some more old gun ads to make bunting.

A bunting is so easy to make- all you need to do is make a triangle pattern out of thick paper (like a piece of junk mail or an empty cereal box), then trace around it on your paper. After you cut several out, stack them, use a hole punch to punch holes in the top two corners. Then all you have to do is string them on some twine! So cheap, but adds so much!

My friend used several of the targets like doilies throughout the food area.
Too cute!

My hubby loves nachos, so I decided to go with a nacho bar. This was pretty easy because you just need chips, nacho cheese, and several toppings. Everybody got to build their own plate of nachos, so it was a big hit.

Planning for a party doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. You could individualize the theme by choosing a hobby that the birthday person enjoys.

  • If he golfs, fill candle holders with tees or golf balls. You don't even have to buy new ones, just dig into his collection! Use score cards to make a bunting. Get a piece of AstroTurf to use as a table runner.
  • If you have somebody who's an artist, fill glass jars with pencils or paintbrushes. Paint a few pieces of paper with abstract watercolors and trim it into a bunting.
  • A baseball fan would love jars filled with baseballs and a bunting made up of bases.
  • For a fisherman, you could make a bunting out of lures! Just borrow a few from his collection and hang them off of some fishing line. Have the silverware sitting in a tackle box.
Once you get going, I'm sure you could come up with lots of cute ideas!

I want to show you one more idea that would work with any theme.

Cut out the age of the birthday person and fill it with pictures.
Everybody loves to look at photographs.

I got two pieces of foam core board from the dollar store. Poster board would work as well, although it isn't as thick.
Then I drew the numbers and cut them out with a box cutter. If you do this, your numbers do not have to be perfect because they're going to be covered with pictures.
I hung mine to display them, so before I covered them, I punched out two holes on the top of both numbers and threaded some twine through them. Then photos ended up covering the holes.

Here's my handsome hubby. I am so grateful that I've been able to spend the last eighteen years with him. He is my best friend and a great dad to our boys. I couldn't ask for a better husband.
Happy Birthday, Baby. I love you.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him,
and He shall bring it to pass.
