Thrifty Thursday #98

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

Ours was very nice and relaxing. It was very slow paced which was nice after the hectic two weeks leading up to it where I was super busy preparing for it.

 

Last week I showed you some awesome stuff that I found at an estate sale. Well, I headed back to that same sale on the last day to see if I could find anything else.

Last days at estate sales are fun because everything is usually half off.

 

I found these awesome tiny flashcards for a dollar!

They're 3" x 2". I love finding stuff like this!

I'm thinking these would make a cute garland.

 

I also picked up these vintage hankies.

The larger one was only fifty cents and the other two were a quarter each.

Aren't they all so pretty?

I almost have enough blue hankies to make some cafe curtains:)

 

I simply cannot pass up old paper.

I found this pack of old graph paper- with orange lines- for a dime. Since everything was half off, the gal threw this in for free!

 

 

Before decorating for a Christmas banquet last week, I made a quick stop into a thrift store to look for any pretties that we could use to decorate.

I found this creamer cup marked down to a dime.

It doesn't have a lid, but I planned to use it for a candle holder, so it didnt' need one!

 

I also found these three jars for fifty cents each.

The front one has cup measurements on it. The back two have square edges instead of being round.

I really don't need anymore jars, but I couldn't resist these.

 

I got this old platter for a dollar. Who can't use an old silver platter? It came in handy for our banquet decorating. After we used it, I tucked it away because I'm sure that it will come in handy again.

Thrifty Thursday #93

This week's thrift store shopping was limited to one store- and a quick run through at that! My fellas were in the car because we had just finished our PE at the YMCA and they wanted to get home to finish up their school work. They weren't too happy about my little stop, so I buttered them up with an offer to swing by Sonic afterward. That helped.

 Who doesn't love a big soda during Sonic Happy Hour?

Anyway, I only found a couple of things. . .

 

so I thought I'd share a gem that I bought awhile ago at a yard sale.

This awesome birdcage was only two dollars. I had gotten it for my mom who recently decided that she no longer needed it- so now it's mine.

Isn't it lovely?

I think I may put some candles in it. I saw that recently at a market I went to and thought it was so unique and cute.

 

I got canning lids- three boxes for a dollar each. They're all new and two of the boxes hadn't even been opened! I've bought jars before that didn't have lids. Now I've got extras in three sizes. Woo!

 

The detail on this hankie is hard to see, but take my work for it, it's amazing!

This fella was only a quarter.

 

It still has it's original tag on it that says, "Made in Portugal."

 

My final purchase was this shirt. I don't usually look at clothes when I'm thrifting, but this blouse caught my eye. I love all the colors and the style. It was only three dollars and

is my new favorite shirt!

Thrifty Thursday #90

You know you're a thrift store junkie when the ladies at the counter recognize you when you walk in the door. Anybody else know that feeling? I sure do. 

I don't know if I should be proud or ashamed. . . :)

 

I was tickled pink when I spotted a basket full of vintage hankies and doilies

priced at twenty five cents each!

I sorted through looking for some without stains.

I got these two lovelies. . .

 

and this one (such handiwork!),

 

and this set of three!

Woo! Can you believe I got six embroidered hankies for $1.50?!?

I gave two of these to a friend, and placed the rest in my stack collection.

I plan to make something really darling with these, I just don't know what yet. . .

 

I got this awesome old manly book for a quarter.

 

Couldn't pass up these graphics.

 

I spent a quarter on this glass candlestick.

I like to keep one or two of these on hand just in case I need to make a raised cake platter.

You know how those kind of emergencies can just pop up:)

 

My final purchase was these two packs of brand new, never been used envelopes.

Each pack has 25 envelopes.

They're so cute all turquoise with a scroll in the corner.

You're probably curious as to what one gal can do with 50 turquoise envelopes if she's not

planning a party of any sort or any kind of mass correspondence.

Well, I'll tell ya. These fellas are destined to become pages in mini scrapbooks.

Thrifty Thursday #55

     Happy Valentine's Day!

     I'm back with part two of my estate sale treasures. Last week I showed you what I got on my first visit. Today I'll show you what I got when I went back the next day- which was the third day of the sale- everything was half off, Baby! I think by now, you all know that I love secondhand shopping- but when I get to do it at half off, I am walking on sunshine!

     I picked up some more vintage hankies for only $1.25.

I got this beautiful hand-stitched piece for $.75.

I have two more of these from a previous yard sale. I need to figure out something really cute to do with them.

 

These old Viewmaster reels were only $5. They are really old. I'm thinking of selling them on Ebay. Anybody ever tried that?

I got this earring and broach set for $2 (only one earring is in the photo, but it came with two). I've seen lots of vintage jewelry repurposed on Pinterest. Can't wait to do something with these.

 

 

Look at all these old stamps! I got all these for less than $2. The ones that aren't in a bag are from Brazil!

 

 

I had seen this big bag full of stamps on my first visit, but I didn't want to pay $15 for them. At fifty percent off, they became something I needed!

While I was waiting in line to pay (which was a long, slow line, I tell you!), I found this film. It's not on a reel. I need to do a little research and see if it's worth anything. If not, I'll be cutting that fella up for projects!

     The next time you drive by a sign advertising an estate sale, give it a whirl! You never know what you'll find.
