I thought it would be fun to take a peek back at past projects,

so the last Friday of every month will be Flashback Friday

where I'll feature five projects with the same theme.

This month is chalkboard projects.
Who doesn't love chalkboard paint?

I turned this thrift store tray into a chalkboard.

This cheese dome was another thrifted find.
I thought a chalkboard base would give it a little character.

I love making buntings, so I was tickled to turn chalkboard paper into a banner.

Makes you want to break out some chalk, doesn't it?

Thrifty Thursday #186

There's a nearby town that has a bi-annual city wide yard sale. 

I don't get to go nearly as often as I'd like to, but my hubby were able to make it this month.
I started showing you last week what I found.

Here's the continuation of the rest of my treasures. . .

Check out this vintage suitcase.

I got it for $3.

The inside is like new.

Of all the old suitcases I've purchased, it's definitely in the best condition.

The locks still work and it came with keys!

I was trying to figure out what I could do with it when my hubby 

suggested that we actually use it for a suitcase. 

Hmm. Not sure about that:)

I got this vintage embroidered table runner for fifty cents.

It has this image on both ends.

I'm thinking of turning it into a decorative pillow.

I know you're looking at this and thinking, "What on earth?!?"
Well, it's an old water cooler.
I love the old label.
I'm thinking it would make a rockin' lamp.
My hubby said he'd help me transform it.
Yippee!

That sums it up.
We were only able to spend about two hours there, but it was worth the drive!

Thrifty Thursday #171

The other day my mom called to see if I was home.

She said that my dad had found something in the trash that I might like.

I was anxious to see what they were bringing.

Imagine my surprise and delight when my dad pulled this out of the back of his truck!

Who on earth would just throw this old school desk away?

It's in great shape.

I just had to wipe it down with some soapy water, then find a perfect place for it in my living room.

Another day while out riding my bike, I happened across another roadside find.

This old suitcase.

Cute, huh?

It probably looked like I was running away from home
as I rode with it laying across my handlebars:)

The inside needs a little work, but I can't complain about the price!

I love Thrifty Thursdays--- I especially love them when I get the stuff for free!

Summer Project Round Up

Today I'm revisiting some fun summer projects. . .

It's summer and sometimes it's too easy to just pop on a cap and head out.

Summer is synonymous with baseball.

This bracelet is actually made from an old baseball.

 

 

You can actually make a keepsake to wear to remember an awesome trip

by making a necklace like this.

 

 

Of course, any round up by me wouldn't be complete without including a mini album of some sort.

This one features what we did throughout one summer.

I made it at the beginning of June using all sorts of random pages.

Then I was able to add photos and tidbits throughout the summer.

Let Your Memory Be Your Travel Bag. . . Unless You've Got One This Cute!

      On Friday, I showed you how I followed this tutorial and used fabric to cover a vintage suitcase. Today I'm going to show you how I took that same suitcase and jazzed it up a bit.

 

I started by hot gluing some trim around the edges.

 

 

Here's a closer view.

I just love it when I get to use pink trim on projects- there's not much demand for that in our testosterone filled house:)

 

Well, I had the outside was looking pretty cute, but this is what the inside looked like.

I pulled out the nasty liner, but then I was left with this.

Pretty ugly.

I couldn't very well leave it that way.

 

 

So I wracked my brain trying to figure out what to do with it. Not fabric because it wouldn't hold up well. Not contact paper or scrapbook paper for the same reason.

I decided on paint. Not just any paint, but paint the same shade as blue as the blue flowers on the fabric. Of course I didn't have paint in that shade of blue.

So I got out my acrylic paint and mixed some up. (I didn't know for sure if I could make this work, but luckily it did work!)

 

Pretty close if I say so myself.

 

I painted the whole inside blue.

But still I felt something was missing.

It was definitely better than the original, but wasn't cute enough.

 

So I got out some pink paint and this handy spouncer and just used a little bit of paint to add some pink all over the blue.

 

This is how it turned out.

It certainly has character. And it matches the fabric on the outside.

Plus I think it will withstand use.

 

 

So that's the story of my jazzed up suitcase.

Fabric Covered Vintage Suitcase

     Last week I showed you a vintage suitcase that I picked up for $2 at an estate sale. I got it even though one side had a mar in it because I had a project in mind for it.

 

I covered the bad side of it with fabric.

All it took was some fabric and Mod Podge.

I followed the tutorial that I found here.

 

 

Kinda cute, huh?

Now you can't see the missing chunk.

Well, now that I've got this cute luggage, I think I'm due for a trip.

Thrifty Thursday #76

     Do you ever get a glimpse of a yard sale and what you see gets you so excited that you can't wait to get up in there? Well, that's how I felt about this estate sale when I saw it.

 

I could see from the road that there was a lot of furniture. When I spotted this beautiful dresser, I asked the lady how much she wanted for it. She said, are you ready for this?, "I'll take twenty dollars for it." I do believe that my jaw dropped.

Now, let me tell you that not only do I not need any more furniture in my house, but I don't have room for any more furniture in my house. But I couldn't believe her price.

So now I have a beautiful yellow dresser with a matching mirror sitting in my driveway until I can find a place for it in my house.

 

Isn't it so beautiful?

 

I also got this vintage suitcase for $2. Great deal if you ask me.

A girl can never have too many old suitcases- unless you ask my hubby.

He would probably beg to differ:)

 

Books were only a dime, so I went through all that she had. I got 12. I got a couple that I want to read, a couple for the library at church, and several to turn into journals like this.

 

The last thing I found was this vintage linen with beautiful embroidery work. I only paid a dollar for it! I know some lady put hours of work into this. I just love it!

 

 

I am super excited because as I was reading the town paper today, I saw that there are two estate sales tomorrow. Yippee!
