A Peek At My "Old" Furniture

Every Thursday, I show you what I've found while secondhand shopping.

I often repurpose these items.

Some of my favorite projects are furniture pieces.

I have several pieces of furniture in my house that actually started off as "trash."

The couch in my living room was made from three old doors (that I got for free).

Isn't this sofa cool?

My hubby and boys made it for me. They're the best.

Sitting in front of that couch is this coffee table. . . 

which is a chalkboard trunk!

I got the trunk at the thrift store for less than $5.

Also in the living room is this cute little end table made from an old Texas Instruments wooden case.

(I got the case at a resale shop and the rocker at an estate sale.) 

This sweet turquoise bench sits in my front entry.

I bought it for around five dollars at a yard sale and painted it.

This lovely lady sits in my kitchen.

It's a an old pew that I got for free, then recovered.

 I love these old pieces. They have such charm- and they certainly are unique!

My teenage boys, on the other hand, are not fond of my "old" stuff and often give me a hard time about my taste in decor.

I'd like to introduce. . .

the newest member of our household!

Isn't she beautiful? I got her from my brother-in-law. She needed a new home and I'm known for taking in old gems. It's a Wuriitzer from the early 1900s. My bro-in-law was pleased that this would be staying in the family.

You're probably wondering if I can play piano. Actually, no, I can't. But I plan to learn. Ethan, my
11-year-old, thinks it will be great when I can play. He plays the guitar and his brother plays the drums. He said now his dad just needs to learn an instrument. :) Somehow, I don't think he would be very excited if we suggested family music time!
I told him that once he learns the keys on the piano, he will be able to play since he can play the guitar. He insists that the skills won't transfer. How is it that an 11-year-old thinks they know more than an adult? :)

Revamped Pew

     Our church recently got new pews, so I was blessed with one of the outgoing pews.

This is what it looked like before. For some reason the photo has a yellow cast to it, but the pew did have brownish padding. I removed this material, cleaned the foam beneath it, and reupholstered it.

This is what it looks like now. I think this fabric is so happy! I love it in my green kitchen!

Right now, we have a round table, but we hope to get a rectangle one. I'd really like an old farmhouse table.

Buffet Makeover

     Sometimes my brother, who buys houses and rehabs them, brings me a surprise that's old and needs some love- like this piece of furniture (photo below) or these doors (which I will be posting about what I've done with them within the week). I love this kind of present!! Truly, I do:)

As you can see, this little fella needed some help. Below the yuckiness, he's really quite pretty- especially the decorative trim on the drawers!

After I washed him up, my hubbie spray painted him with a couple of coats of white. Then I glazed him. This was my first experience with glazing, but it went quite well. I was really pleased with the result. Unfortunately, we don't have any room left in our house for another piece of furniture, so I had to find this guy a new home.
