Mini Album Monday #78- Large Envelope Album

Oftentimes I come across different office supplies in my second hand shopping

and I always pick them up.

I especially love to find envelopes in different sizes.

I recently went to an estate sale and bought some large 10"x 13" white envelopes.

I couldn't wait to turn them into a mini album.

Here's the cover.

I got the Hello Life card out of a package of Tim Holtz journaling cards.

I used three envelopes and cut them in half which gave me six pages.

The outside two are my covers. I cut a piece of chipboard to fit inside them
to give the covers some stability.

I placed the open sides of those envelopes to the left so that the open side would be in the binding.

The rest of the envelopes have the open sides to the right, so they can act as pocket pages.

I added a strip of decorative pattern paper to the outside edge of each white page.

In between the pages I added smaller pages.
 

Each smaller page flips over to reveal the opposite side envelope.

Each envelope has a piece of cardstock in it which gives more room to add memories.

I bound it with my Bind-It-All machine.

I had such a good time making this album. It was easy and went together very quickly.

Mini Album Monday #57- Simple Album to Do With Your Kids

As we're in the depths of summer, you may be running out of things to do with your kiddos
or you may still have a list of things to do.

Either way, here's a fun project that you can do together and feature photographs from things
you've  done this summer.

It's a cute little album made from envelopes.
It has eight pages plus three pockets to hold mementos.

To make one, you need:
two 6"x 9" manilla envelopes
one piece of 8 1/2"x 11" cardstock cut in half
one piece of pattern paper measuring 4 1/4"x 5 1/4"
eight strips of 1"x 4 1/4" strips of pattern paper
four strips of 1"x 6" pattern paper strips
two pieces of ribbon- one 10" and one 20"
4-5 embellishments like small tickets, circle punches, and/or small bull clip

optional: tiny plastic baggie (like a jewelry bag)

To start, fold the envelopes and cardstock pieces in half.
Lay them down so you have:
 an envelope with the opening to the left
piece of cardstock
envelope with the opening to the right
piece of cardstock.

Then punch a hole on the folded edge coming down from the top
and up from the bottom.
Using your 10" piece of string, run them through both holes so you end up with the two ends on the outside of the book. Then tie a tight knot.
You can leave the extra length of ribbon or trim it short.

Now on each cardstock page, use one of the shorter strips (4 1/4" x 1") and place it either along the bottom edge or along the top edge horizontally.

Place the 1"x 6" strips vertically on the outer edges of the pages that are envelopes-
except on the sides that have the openings.

Here's the center with the ribbon running through the two holes.

Using your small embellishments, staple each one along the edge of the cardstock pages having them stick up to act as page tabs.

I placed mine in different areas along the edges so that when the book is closed, there are lots of tabs sticking up around the cover.

For a little extra, I added themed buttons on top of some of my page tabs.

On the back cover, I added a small plastic bag for more mementos.
Note: when you staple this, only do one side of the bag so it can still be opened.
Think how cute a little bit of sand or a pressed penny would look in here!

To finish it off, adhere the 4 1/4"x 5 1/4" piece of paper centered on the cover.

Then take your 20" piece of ribbon and center it across the front and back covers.
Use stickers, stamps, or handwriting for the title.
Use a bit of adhesive (I used Glue Dots) to keep the ribbon on the cover.
Keep the extra length so you can tie the book closed.

That's it! Pretty simple.
I've made these with my kids and with a group of girls and they were so excited to make their own mini albums. They couldn't wait to fill them with their memories!

Layout of the Week #111

I don't know why I have such an affinity for office supplies.

I just love different sized envelopes, tags of all sorts, and random office stamps.

I'm not kidding. When I pass by a box of large manilla envelopes at work,

 I can't help but think how Id like to turn them into a mini album!

It may go back to when I was a little girl playing at my grandma's house.

She had a big roll top desk and would let me sit and play "office" with all her supplies.

Today I'd like to flash back to two layouts that I used envelopes on.

This layout has a business size envelope that holds additional photos and a pamphlet.

This page is actually made out of three long envelopes attached together to make the background.

Mini Album Monday #52- Coin Envelope Album

Today's featured mini album is a unique one.

It's very tiny and has no photos!

I used coin envelopes for the pages.

For the title, I painted a large 2 with a foam stamp.

Then I added a narrow strip of pattern paper,

a small flower, and a word strip that says just.

This makes the title, "Just 2."

I used a total of 12 coin envelopes that measure 2 1/4"x 3 1/2".

I took a piece of pattern paper measuring 3 1/2" x 5 3/4" and scored every 1/4" to make 

an accordion fold. Then I attached each envelope to a fold.

I wrapped a piece of ribbon along the binding and attached it to the inside of the covers.

It ties at the edge to keep the book closed.

In the first and back envelopes- the covers- I placed a small piece of chipboard to make them sturdy.

Then I sealed them closed.

For the rest of the envelopes, I cut off the flap and used a small circle punch to make a tab 

which makes it easier to pull out the cards.

In each of the inside envelopes, I placed a piece of white cardstock measuring 2 1/8"x 3 1/2".

On each of the interior envelopes, I placed a journaling prompt.

The cards on the inside are for the answers.

Each of the prompts asks for two things:

two everyday things I couldn't live without

two of my favorite songs

two things I worry about

two things I want to do before I die

two stores I shop at

two things that scare me

two snacks I could eat every day

two people I'd be lost without

two nicknames I've been given

next two places I want to go on vacation

I find journaling is easy to do with prompts.

I got the journaling prompt from this book.

 Each interior page has a narrow strip of pattern paper and a small flower.

I tried to keep it simple, but cute.

I think this kind of album is so easy to complete as it is very simple

and the journaling is do-able.

You can sit down in a couple of hours and complete it.

I think it's nice to document things about me for my kids to have someday.

I know I'd treasure a book like this about my mom or mom-in-law.

Mini Album Monday #49- Single Envelope Album

Today's mini album is not a mini album in the traditional sense.
It's actually just an envelope with four large tags.

I made this album to document some of my husband's memories from when he was young.

I started with a 6 1/2"x 9 1/2" manilla envelope.

 

I opened the flap and lined it with an old book page.

Then I cut chipboard to fit along the inside of the front of the envelope to give it some stability.

I chose this pattern paper because I thought it had a seventies look.

When I placed the ribbons on the envelope, I stapled them on either edge.

 This not only attached the ribbons, but also gave my tags a resting place so they don't slip all the way to the bottom of the envelope.

My interior pages (or tags) are very simple.

I used ivory cardstock that I cut into the shape of tags. 

Then I used a scalloped scissor on the bottom edges. They measure 4"x 8".

Each tag has a photo with a caption that I had my hubby write

 so that this whole project would be in his handwriting.

Behind each photo is a piece of fabric. I cut up a hankie that had a retro print.

I placed two questions on each tag and left space for my hubby to write.

Here are the questions:

What did you do in the summertime?

What did your childhood bedroom look like?

What childhood story do family and friend still tease you about?

What family vacation was your favorite?

I tied a different type of ribbon on the top of each tag- one has twine,
two are fuzzy fibers, and the fourth is a strip of the hankie.

These questions say:
What did you want to be when you grew up?
How did you help out around the house?
What were you afraid of?
As a child, what was your greatest talent?
What was the nicest thing your parents ever did for you?

This project is very easy to re-create.
I love any project that has questions as journaling prompts.
This allows whomever you're featuring in the album to write down memories.
It also gives you a chance to record their handwriting.

This would be a fun project to do with one envelope for each member of your family.
Then you could bind all the envelopes with office rings.

Hmm. . . maybe that will be my next project. . .

Mini Album Monday #29- Easy to Make Envelope Album

Hi Guys! I meant to get this post out much earlier, but I didn't get a chance until after music lessons, making dinner, washing dishes. . . you get the picture:)

 

Today I have a mini album made entirely of business size envelopes. It's really quite easy.

 

Here's the album I'll be showing you how to make.

I am excited to get the photos scrapped from our Spring Break camping trip.

 

To create it, you'll need

business size envelopes- we'll be placing photos on the fronts and backs, so you'll determine how many envelopes you need by how many photos you'll be using (I used 10 envelopes)

2 pieces of 12"x 12" white cardstock

letter stickers for the title

two pieces of coordinating pattern paper measuring 6 1/2"x 3 1/4" and 6 1/2" x 1 1/4"

stickers in your theme

office rings for binding

hole punch

paper trimmer

 adhesive

 

Start by trimming your envelopes to a length of 7".

We'll be placing the open side to the outside of the book so that all the pages will have pockets.

 

Adhere photos on the fronts and backs of each envelope.

I slid mine next to the outer edges and left white space near the binding.

 

Punch holes in all the envelopes and bind them with office rings.

I used my Zutter which punches holes and attaches wire binding.

 

Now cut the white cardstock to 6" x 4".

Adhere photos to each piece.

These pieces will tuck into the pocket pages.

For the cover, adhere the pattern paper measuring 6 1/2"x 3 3/4".

I cut part of a map for mine.

 

Then adhere the other piece of pattern paper measuring 6 1/2" x 1 1/4" about a half inch from the bottom of the other pattern paper.

 

Using your letter stickers, place your title along the right edge of the cover.

 

Add a sticker to the left of the title.

 

Using some of your white cardstock, trim pieces to 1"x 3".

These will be for journaling throughout the book.

 

Here's how my book turned out.

 

See how I placed the small journaling cards overlapping the photos?

 

I didn't add journaling to every photo,

just where I had a story to share.

 

I also added a few stickers here and there along the edges of the photos.

 

 

Remember how I added photos to white cardstock?

Well, I placed one of these in each envelope.

 

The beauty of this album is you can make it however long or short you'd like.

 

In my very last page, I placed a couple of pamphlets from our trip (I folded them so they'd fit).

That's it. Pretty easy, huh?

This is a quick way to get photos in an album without worrying about being too fancy.

I do love keeping things simple:)
