Pink Fuzzy Pillow

My sewing machine has been sitting out on my dining room table since I got it out

last week for a different project.

I was hoping that with it out and convenient, I'd find some time to use it to make something else this week. Today I was finally able to eek out some time.

 

 

I've had this pink fuzzy material for awhile and thought it would make a cute pillow.

 

 

I added this pink and white pom pom trim.

 

 

It's just so soft and fuzzy.

Makes me want to lay down and take a nap on it:)

Tea Towel Pillow

A few weeks ago I came across two tea towels at the thrift store.

They were only a quarter apiece.

I don't often come across cute tea towels in my secondhand shopping,

so I was delighted when I found them.

  

 

I knew right away that these fellas would become a pillow.

 

I started by sewing the lace along the edge of one of the towels.

Then I laid the towels face to face with the lace sandwiched in between them and ran them through my sewing machine.

I left about a four inch gap so that I could turn the towels right side out and fill them with stuffing.

I finished off the pillow by hand sewing the gap closed.

 

The tea towels are large, so the pillow ended up being the size of a regular pillow.

 

 

The words say Bon Buni Cucacao- not for sure what area the map is featuring,

but I think it turned out pretty cute.

It will join all the other pillows on my door couch.

 

Pillows are such a simple sewing project.

Now that I've made several, I may be ready to move on to a more complicated sewing project. . .

Handmade Pillow

The minute I spotted this darling camera fabric at Hobby Lobby,

I knew that I had to get some.

It's so cute, but the print was large enough that the only thing

I could think to make with it was a pillow.

 

So here it is. . .

in all its glory with its lovely red trim.

 

I enjoy making pillows because they're so easy.

 

I cut my panels from different parts of the fabric so my front and back would be different.

 

It's a great addition to the other pillows on my door couch.

Making and Wrapping Bulk Christmas Gifts

This is the time of year that I try to come up with gift ideas that I can make in bulk. 

I have 18 friends at church and 13 co-workers to whom I give gifts and that can get pretty expensive! To keep the costs down, I try to give handmade gifts.

 

 

Something else that adds up is the wrapping.

This year I used white paper bags, mailing labels, and decorative tape to make my own gift bags.

 

I cut off about the top 3 1/2" of the bag, then folded the top down and sealed it closed with one or two pieces of decorative tape.

Instead of regular gift tags, I used some old mailing labels.

 

Kinda cute and unique, huh?

Can't beat the price of these!

 

 

My co-workers received a bracelet with a quote.

 

My hubby curved the quote plaques for me. Then I attached a chain and clasp.

 

I bought the Tim Holtz quote charms at Hobby Lobby.

They're regularly $7.99 for a set of 12, but I used my 40% off coupon on two packs.

I also bought a roll of chain for 40% off of $11.99.

I already had the pearls and clasps.

Each bracelet cost around $1 and I have lots of chain and quote plaques left over

to make additional bracelets.

 

 

For the gifts for my church friends, I made ornaments.

I used burlap and sewed small birds.

Some have cotton wings with a word stamped on them.

 

And some have small pieces of vintage doilies for wings.

 

Over the years, I've chosen a  few different projects that could be done in bulk and given as gifts.

I Heart Making Pillows!

Hey, happy Friday the 13th to you all!

I've never considered this a bad day- I was actually born on a Friday the 13th. :)

 

You know how how I've shown you a couple of pillows that I made and told you that I am on a pillow kick? Well, here's further evidence. . .

 

 

It's a heart button pillow!

 

I started by lightly drawing a heart on a piece of fabric (that I actually purchased at a thrift store). Then I used fabric glue and covered the heart with many different colored buttons. Over several days, I sewed on all the buttons. The fabric glue was just to keep them in place until I got them all sewn on. Once that was done, the piece of fabric just sat. . . for a long time. Until I started making pillows. Then I attached the red pom-pom trim to this piece, cut out another piece of fabric, and sewed the two together. Finally, I stuffed it- Voila!

Bag of Pinto Beans. . . Or A Pillow?

I'm so glad you stopped by! I have a quirky and fun project to share with you today.

It's a pillow- made from a pinto bean bag!

I got the bag for ten cents at a yard sale last year. No joke.

It's been folded up on a shelf since I bought it. Then I recently tried making a pillow and was so pleased with the results that I started looking around to see what else I could turn into a pillow. And I remembered this beautiful burlap bag.

So I dug through my ribbon collection and found this delightful blue pom-pom trim

and knew it was meant to be.

Now, let me tell you that I'm by no means a seamstress. I remember tips my mom has taught me over the years and bits and pieces from Home Ec. Lucky for me it doesn't take too much to sew two rectangles together!

Simple Pillow Project

I have discovered a new hobby. . . sewing pillows!

I must say, the process goes so quickly, I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. . .

Here's my first creation.

I got this fabric out of the remnants section in the Hobby Lobby clearance rack.

The lace was some that I pulled out of my stash.

 

The reason I went with a short, long pillow is because that's how the fabric

was cut. I just worked with what I had. 

 

 

For now, I've propped it on the couch among my current store-bought pillows.

One by one, I plan to replace my worn out pillows with new pretty handmade pillows.

It's In The Bag. . .

     I am sooooooooo excited about today's project! It's something that I've wanted to do for awhile, and it was so easy. I don't know why I put it off for so long!

 

How cute is this purse?

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but beep, beep!

 

Before you start thinking that I must be some kind of mega-seamstress, let me tell you how I made it.

I bought a pre-made handbag and some rosette trim from Hobby Lobby.

Then I used some material that I had at home to sew a ruffle.

I have never sewn a ruffle before. I followed the tutorial here.

 

 

The tutorial said to cut your material as wide as you want the ruffle to be and twice as long as you need the ruffle to be. I cut my material to 3" x 28".

After I sewed it into a ruffle, I used hot glue to attach it to the purse. The purse is made of jute and has a plastic lining, so I figured the hot glue wouldn't hurt it. It didn't.

Then I attached the trim by placing hot glue behind each rosette.

Note: I only attached trim to one side as I thought the side that I carried against my body would rub and the trim would start to look worn.

 

 

Ta-da! That's it! Now I have my summer purse!

The best part- it didn't even cost $8. I used my 40% off coupon on the handbag and the rosette trim was 30% off (and I have some of that left over!).

That, my friends, is what I call a good deal!
