More Lovelies That I Love

I always have been drawn to anything with little houses on it. 

Perhaps because it speaks to my domestic side?!?

Today I've got all sorts of  products with my favorite little houses.
I've branched out with more than just paper products- I've got wallpaper, fabric, and even a piece of jewelry to share with you!

  

 

How cute is this fabric? I love the little green houses!

Wouldn't this make a darling pillow or Ottoman cover?

Seriously.

They're modeled after small towns in Germany.

Long ago, my hubby and I lived in Germany for several years.

I'm thinking that I might need one of these. . . you know, because of my history there:)

I can't just ignore my first crafty love of scrapbooking, so naturally, I've found a couple of paper products to share.

I totally love this happy looking paper by Bella Blvd.

This Washi tape is stinkin' awesome. I love the nighttime skyline.

This Post Is Brought To You By The Letter W

I am bound and determined to have an alphabet wall in my living room, 

so I've been working on collecting all 26 letters in various forms.

I'm about seven letters short, but I'm almost there.

Today I'm working on my letter W.

Here's how it turned out.

 

I started with a chipboard letter from Hobby Lobby.

It's about 8" tall and cost $1.99 before my 40% off coupon.

I painted the edges so that it would look finished once the fabric was attached.

 

Then I used a foam brush to paint Mod Podge on the front of the letter. I paid special attention to making sure all the edges were covered so the fabric wouldn't begin to peel away.

I pressed the letter flat onto the fabric.

Then I placed a couple of heavy books on it and left it for a few hours

 to make sure the fabric would adhere.

 

Once the fabric was dry, I used a rotary cutter to trim along the edges.

This tool gave a cleaner cut than scissors since it could roll along the edges,

although I did have to use fine tip scissors in the tiny v's.

 

Here's the finished product.

The edges are nice and tight and the fabric is smooth.

 

The painted edges add a nice touch.

 

 

One letter closer to my wall display!

Cross Made From An Old Pallet

Earlier this week, my hubby was sweet enough to help me prepare for a project for Children's Church. We wanted the kids to be able to make something for Easter.

So he used an old pallet that he had out back, cut it up, and made crosses for the kids to paint.

Luckily, there was enough wood so that I got a cross too!

 

I couldn't decide what color to paint mine, so I just left it in the natural wood color.

Then my friend gave me the delightful idea of adding fabric rosettes.

 

Would you believe that my hubby cranked out eight of these in an hour?

He cut the wood, then I sanded the pieces before he attached them.

They stand about 15-16" tall and are about 12-13" wide.

 

I am so happy with how they turned out that it's got my wheels turning

about what else I could do with pallet wood. . .

Fabric Covered Balls

Today I have a fun and quick project to show you. . .

fabric covered balls!

I don't think this project could be any simpler.

All you need to make it is:

Styrofoam balls

strips of fabric

straight pins

You'll just start pinning your strips of fabric to the ball.
I suggest that your strips are no wider than 1".
The length doesn't matter so much as you'll just keep adding fabric until
you can no longer see Styrofoam.

This is a great way to use up leftover pieces of fabric.

I added straight pins at the ends of the strips and along the edges to keep them from puckering up.

I used denim and lace on my balls.
I had brand new denim which gave me the dark color and the lighter color denim is from a pair of well worn jeans that I cut up.

For the lace balls, I used different types of white lace.

What do you think? Super easy, huh?

These would look darling sitting in a bowl or you could set a few in a stack on a shelf.
A bunch of them would look super cute in a tall wide mouth glass vase.

I made these to use as decor for a bridal shower.

Some Cush For Your Tush

 

Earlier this week, I showed you my "new" couch made from old doors. As cute as the couch is, I couldn't expect anyone to sit on it without a cushion! Today I'm going to show you how my hubby and I made a seat for it.

 

First we measured the actual seat of the couch and cut a piece of plywood to fit.

Then we covered the plywood with spray adhesive.

We waited a few moments to allow the adhesive to get tacky (per the directions on the can).

 

Then we placed the 4" foam onto the board and let it sit for about thirty minutes so it would stick.

 

 

My foam was longer than the board, so I used a yardstick and marked where it needed to be cut.

 

I cut off the excess with an electric fish fillet knife.

It sliced through that foam like butter!

(an electric turkey carver would work, too)

 

 

Then, pulling the fabric tight, we stapled along the long edges of the board.

 

We saved the two short sides for last.

We folded tight hospital corners before stapling.

 

Ta-da! Once it was finished, we placed this fella onto the couch.

 

Isn't that fabric fabulous? I got it at Hancock Fabrics. I wanted a neutral color so I could add lots of colorful pillows.

 

 

Isn't my hubby the best? Not only did he make me an incredibly unique couch, but he didn't even balk at helping me to make the seat. He rocks.

Handmade Holiday Gift Idea DIY

This is the time of year that you may need to come up with gift ideas to give your girlfriends

or co-workers. I have quite a few co-workers and I always want to give them something cute, but because I have so many, my gift has to be inexpensive.

Today I've got a unique idea that you can make rather inexpensively in bulk.

 

It's a fabric rosette bracelet.

 

 

Think about it, you can the roll the fabric rosettes while you're watching tv.

That's the most time consuming part of this project.

 

To make one, you need:

four fabric rosettes about 1 3/4" across

8 1/2" length narrow ribbon (mine is about 1/4")

bracelet clasp

felt

something circular to use as a template to cut circles from the felt (like a quarter)

glue gun

 

Tie each end of the clasp at the ends of the ribbon.

 

Now flip the rosettes so the wrong sides are facing up.

Apply hot glue along a strip in the middle and adhere the ribbon.

Make sure the clasps are hanging off either end.

 

Use your circle guide to cut four circles out of your felt.

(The felt should coordinate with your fabric.)

My circle is about 1 1/4" across.

 

Now glue a felt circle to the back of each rosette. This will reinforce the ribbon and give it a nicer, more professional look than leaving the ribbon showing.

 

 

See how it clasps at the back?

 

 

I used two coordinating fabrics for mine.

 

See how easily you can make this?

 

I would be so excited to get something like this as a gift. :)

Thrifty Thursday #89

     I'm back in the groove of making my weekly stop at the thrift stores- I hope. Two weeks in a row is at least the start of a groove, right? :)
     I didn't find anything that knocked my socks off, but I did get some good small items.

 

I got this book for a quarter- I can tell from the cover that it's old.

 

 

I love, love, love the graphics!

Someday when I get my dream job of designing scrapbook paper, I hope to use some of these awesome vintage images.

Is that against copyright laws, I wonder?

 

A few weeks ago, I showed you some beautiful vintage postcards that I found. Believe it or not, the thrift store still had some- and they had marked them down to twenty five cents each!

I went back through the pile and found a few more.

 

So pretty.

 

I am always drawn to handmade things- like this doily.

It was only a quarter!

I'm building my collection of these and plan to sew them together to make a long table runner.

 

I spotted a basket of fabric for twenty five cents per piece.

I love the colors on this, and there's enough of it to make 2-3 pillows.

Can't beat the price, that's for sure.

 

I also picked up this piece. I thought it would look cute on a reupholstered chair.

There was quite a bit more fabric to choose from, but these were the only two pieces

that I was drawn to.

 

That's my loot. I think my magic price today was twenty five cents!

You could never peg me as a big spender:)

Hats Off To You!

 

I've stepped out of my box to try this project today.

No, I didn't make the cap, but I did jazz it up a bit with some lace and fabric.

 

The cap I had was cute, but I didn't want to sport a Frito Lay hat.

I used a seam ripper to tear out the embroidered letters.

 

Want to "girlie" up a cap for yourself? All you need is:

cap

fabric strip

lace

3 pearl beads

fabric glue

glue gun

 

Start by making a fabric rosette using the fabric strip and fabric glue. If you don't know how, you can go here to learn how to make one.

Use your glue gun to attach lace to the back of your rosette. You just need a little bit peeking around the edges.

Glue three pearl beads to the center of the rosette.

Glue your rosette on the side of your cap.

That's it, my friends!
