Flashback Friday: DIY projects with a Beach Theme

It's the last Friday of the month, which means it's Flashback Friday where we look back
at past projects all featuring the same theme.

In the heat of the summer, I thought we'd look at beach themed projects.

 

 

For this project, I added sand and shells to make a beach shadowbox .

 

 

Here is a simple beach-y centerpiece I made.

 

 

I used clear Christmas ornaments to bring a little beach to Christmas.

Lovelies That I Love

It is hot as the dickens here in southern Texas,

so let's look at some beach themed lovelies today. . .

 

Isn't this whale tail bracelet so unique?

Seeing a real whale is on my bucket list:)

 

 

I totally love this driftwood sign that can be customized with your latitude and longitude.

 

 

How cute is this beach cover up?

I mean really!

 

 

These beach letter photos just make me happy.

You could order the letters of your last name or you could choose a word like happiness.

 

 

I am so drawn to these round beach towels.

This one is especially beautiful with it's yellow center and fringe all around.

 

Seeing all of this just makes me want to grab a picnic and head for the beach!

Beach Shadowbox DIY

My brother visits family in Fort Lauderdale three or four times a year.
It feels like a second home to him.
The first time he visited, he brought back lots of seashells and quite a bit of sand.
I thought I'd make him something to remind him of the place he so loves. 

I started with a 5"x 7" shadowbox.

I removed the backside and poured sand into the bottom 2/3 of the frame.

Then I filled the rest of the space with small seashells.

 

I added a tag that I stamped with "My own piece of Ft. Lauderdale Beach."

 

I sure wish I had collected sand and shells from all the places we've been.

Wouldn't several of these look cute on a wall with vacation photos?

 

The weather is getting nicer- it's been in the 80's all week here.
We're heading out for a three day camping trip this coming Sunday, so the weather will be perfect.
Our boys are 16 and 14. I was just telling my hubby that we need to enjoy what few family vacations we have left before they leave home!

Christmas Ornaments

I love all kinds of ornaments.

I could never go with just one theme on our Christmas tree 

because we have too many precious ornaments that we've collected over the years. 

We have some that my mother-in-law sewed, 

some that my boys made in preschool, 

and we even have one that my husband painted when he was in kindergarten!

I've made a few over the years that I thought we could take a look back at. . . 

For this one, I used a clear ornament and filled it with punched paper hearts.

You can have a little paradise on your tree with this one.

It's a glass ball filled with sand and tiny shells.

This one is covered with pieces of map.

I made several and stamped words on them like "peace," "love," and "joy."

Beach-y Centerpieces

Here's a super easy centerpiece that is great for the summer.

If you've got a large vase/candle holder, some sand, a few seashells, and a tealight candle,

then you've got what you need to whip up one of these.

 Just fill the vase/candleholder about 2/3 full of sand.

Place a few seashells around a tealight candle.

That's it!

Pair it with a fishing net and you've got a whole lotta cuteness!

(I got my fishing net at the dollar store.)

Makes you want to go to the beach, huh?

A Little Paradise At Christmas

     Recently my brother took a trip to Florida and he brought back sand and lots of seashells. Normally, I'm not a beach-y decor kind of gal, but I wanted to do something to do with them.

 After browsing through ideas on Pinterest, this idea was born. . .

I found the glass Christmas balls at the thrift store the other day.

 

 

If you'd like a little bit of paradise on your Christmas tree this year, all you need to make these are

clear Christmas balls

sand

tiny seashells

funnel

 

Remove the caps from the ornament. Use a funnel to fill the balls almost halfway full of sand. Drop tiny seashells onto the sand. Put the caps back on and add ornament hangers. That's it!

 

     A set of these would make a nice Christmas gift- especially for that special someone who loves the beach!
