Recipe of the Week #80- Crock Pot Root Beer Pulled Pork

Crock Pot Root Beer Pulled Pork
1 3lb. boneless pork roast
1 12oz can of Root Beer
1 18 oz bottle of BBQ sauce
8 hamburger buns

Put roast in the Crock Pot, then pour the Root Beer over the meat. Cook 6-8 hours on low.
Take the meat out and drain the Root Beer out of the Crock Pot. Shred the meat, then place it back in the Crock Pot and stir in the BBQ sauce. Keep warm until serving. Serve on hamburger buns.

This recipe is so good and so easy! I am a huge fan of pulled pork sandwiches, and these were mouth-watering good! My whole family loved them. I've made this twice since finding this recipe here, and I'll definitely be making them again.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
and I will glorify Your name forevermore.

Mini Album Monday #10- Small Envelope Album

Today I have another trip album to show you. This one went together very easily and quickly. I actually have a YouTube video showing how I made it. There is a link below.

This album is made of two envelopes measuring 5 3/4"x 4 1/4"
and two pieces of pattern paper measuring 5 1/2"x 8 1/2".
It's pretty small in size- just big enough to fit in your hands.

This is what it looks like when you first open the book.

Throughout I used some photos measuring 4"x6" and some wallet size photos. I actually fit 23 pictures in this tiny album!

The page on the left is an envelope, so I fit a journaling card in it.

This is the center of the album.
See the twine in the center? That's how I bound the book.

Because I used double sided pattern paper and a few border strips, I didn't have to add much in the way of embellishments.

When I make mini albums, I like to use different items as tabs which can be used to help turn the pages. Here you can see that I added a Tim Holtz clip to the upper left side and a small piece of Tim Holtz filmstrip to the top right.

On the left, below the photo, is part of a menu from one of the restaurants that we ate at.
I also used a butterfly paper punch to punch pieces out of the menu and used them here and there throughout the book.

The page on the right is the other envelope with a journaling card peeking out.

Here's the back cover.

Think you want to make an album like this?
I have a YouTube video showing the steps. If you don't have exactly the same supplies, it's ok. Substitute them with something else. If you don't have any sort of border stickers, just use strips of pattern paper or washi tape.
For some reason, it doesn't show the end of my video so I'll give you the rest of the directions here:
To finish it off, you need to take the two small pieces of pattern papers measuring 5 1/2"x 3 1/2" (left over from the long strips that you cut for the inside pages) and adhere them to the front and back covers- the red and white stripes go on the back and the Adventure paper goes on the front. They won't completely cover the spaces, so adhere them close to the spine.
On the front cover, use the last border sticker strip and place it next to the pattern paper.
Now take ribbon that measures about 20 inches and place it about halfway down the cover. Use a couple of Glue Dots to hold it in place. It will wrap around the binding so you should have two long pieces that will tie at the right side.
Add photos and journaling. I even used a couple of tickets and a clip to have little extras hanging over the edges of the pages.
Add a title to the front. I didn't give instructions in the video for this so everybody could customize their own. I used a piece of ledger paper punched into a circle and placed some letter stickers on it. There are lots of types of pre-printed titles if you rather.

There you have it. Arent' mini albums fun?
I just love that I can sit down in a short time and document a specific event. I know that over time, I'll forget the little details. I think it's so important to get them documented whether it's in a mini album like this or a simple journal.

I totally recommend that you get a notebook and write down your family's stories. You always think you'll remember, but if you do this, you'll be surprised at how much you would have forgotten had you not written it down. You'll find that it is worth the few minutes that it takes.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Hats Off To You!

I've stepped out of my box to try this project today.
No, I didn't make the cap, but I did jazz it up a bit with some lace and fabric.

The cap I had was cute, but I didn't want to sport a Frito Lay hat.
I used a seam ripper to tear out the embroidered letters.

Want to "girlie" up a cap for yourself? All you need is:
cap
fabric strip
lace
3 pearl beads
fabric glue
glue gun

Start by making a fabric rosette using the fabric strip and fabric glue. If you don't know how, you can go here to learn how to make one.
Use your glue gun to attach lace to the back of your rosette. You just need a little bit peeking around the edges.
Glue three pearl beads to the center of the rosette.
Glue your rosette on the side of your cap.
That's it, my friends!

What do you think?

I do believe this will come in handy on bad hair days!

If you like this rosette project, you can go here to see how to make a rosette necklace, here to see how to make a rosette bracelet, and here to see a rosette wreath.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High

Thrifty Thursday #79

Last weekend there was an estate sale that I wanted to go to, but our weekend was so packed that it looked like I wasn't going to get to it. Luckily, I found a little time Sunday afternoon to go.
It started raining on the way there. By the time I got there, it was pouring and all the stuff that was left was laying out on the front lawn. Did I let that stop me?  Oh no, I didn't. I got out my trusty umbrella and carefully walked through puddles to see what I could find. With it being the last day of the sale, there wasn't much.

I found this small Pyrex bowl and I just love it. It even has a lid.
This type of dish always reminds me of my mother-in-law.

I also spotted this old scoop. It just appealed to me. I think it's pretty old- there are words imprinted on the metal part. I can't read them all, but I can make out that it's 1/4 cup. The scoop looks worn, but I thought it would be cute hanging on the wall. I got this and the Pyrex bowl for $2.

I'd say it was worth shopping in the rain.:)

Today I took a quick buzz through a thrift store. I got this dessert plate for $1. I love the turquoise flowers on it. Not for sure if I'll use it in my kitchen or if I'll use it for a project.

I got this 18" beaded necklace for $1. I think it's pretty.
I'm planning to add a fabric flower to it. Stay tuned:)

I found the teacup for only a quarter. Then I spotted the plate for fifty cents. They aren't a perfect match, but they're close. I'm going to use them to make a candle holder like this.

Good luck with your thrifty shopping! Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work;
I will triumph in the works of Your hands.

Layout of the Week #63- Using Random Letter Stickers For Your Title

Can you believe that I have a binder full of letter stickers? I'm not even kidding. Every week I flip through this binder trying to find just the right style for the layout I'm working on. Well, today I pulled out several sets that have only a few letters left and used them to create the title of my page.

Here's the layout we'll be making.
Follow along and you can use up some of your leftover stickers!

To create it, you'll need:
two pieces of 12"x12" cardstock
one piece of pattern paper measuring 8 1/2"x 11 1/2" (I used ledger paper)
four strips of coordinating pattern paper or washi tape (two 1" strips and two 1/2" strips)
two pieces of scrap papers- measurements below
stickers in whatever theme you'll be scrapping
leftover letter stickers
adhesive
paper trimmer

To start, take one piece of the cardstock and trim 1/4" off the top and the right side.
Adhere it in the center of the other piece of cardstock.

Now take your four strips of paper or washi tape and adhere them vertically in the center of the cardstock. The strips should all be 12" long, so they will go from the top to the bottom of the background cardstock.
I lined mine up by placing a ruler at the bottom of my cardstock and adhering the strips from 4 1/2"-7 1/2" (because you have 3" of strips- two 1" strips and two 1/2" strips.)

Trim your pattern paper in half vertically. Both pieces should then measure 4 1/4" x 11 1/2". Adhere them on either side of the strips.

Now place a vertical photo in the bottom right corner. Mine measures 3 3/4"x 5".
Optional: adhere a 1/2" strip of pattern paper under the photo.

Place a smaller photo in the upper left corner. Mine measures 3"x 3 1/2".
Optional: Place a piece of pattern paper behind the photo to act as a mat. Mine measures 2 1/4" x 4".

Place a second photo overlapping the top photo. This photo should overlap the strips in the middle of the page. My photo measures 4 1/2" x 3 1/2".

Place a third photo overlapping the second photo. Mine measures 3" x 4 1/2".

Now place your title in the upper right corner.
Use random letter stickers with different colors and fonts.

Place some stickers overlapping the photos.
I placed a sticker on the side of the top photo on the left, at the bottom of the photo on the left and on the bottom of the photo on the right.

Write your journaling on one or two small pieces of pattern paper. Adhere them next to the photos on the left.
Ta-da! We're done! See how the random letters in the title really pops!

I hope you enjoyed this layout. Thanks so much for stopping by and God bless.

I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust."

Recipe of the Week #79- Cake Mix Fudge

Cake Mix Fudge
1 cup yellow cake mix
2-3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 stick butter or margarine, cut into small squares
1/4 cup milk
sprinkles (optional)

Mix cake mix and 2 cups powdered sugar in microwave-safe bowl. Add butter and milk. Don’t stir.

Microwave for 2 minutes. Stir immediately until completely combined. Add 1 cup powdered sugar if dough isn't fudge consistency. Add sprinkles. Do not overstir as the color of the sprinkles may bleed.

Spread into greased pan. Refrigerate for at least one hour. Makes 6"x6" pan size.

Note: The first time I tried this, I only used one cup of powdered sugar and I didn't get a fudge-y consistency. So I tried it agin using more powdered sugar. I have found that if I use 2 cups of powdered sugar with the cake mix, then add another cup of powdered sugar after I microwave the mix, it seems to be enough.

This recipe is as good as it sounds. And who doesn't love a quick fudge recipe! We will certainly be having this again!

This recipe was slightly modified from one I found here.

Who is so great a God as our God?

Mini Album Monday #9- Trip Themed Album

Since we're still in the dog days of summer, which is prime traveling time, I thought I'd show you a mini album I made featuring a trip we took.

I printed the title off of my computer.
I placed map pattern paper on the background with some striped paper on top of that.

The thin black strips lining the title block are actually strips of pattern paper with little white license plates that say Road Trip. I cut this paper into strips and used some on each page.

I bound this book with two large brads.

On the first page, I printed off a map to show our route.

The foundation of this book is seven 6"x9" Manila envelopes and chipboard which I used for the cover and also for inserts inside the envelopes. This helps to make the album sturdy.
I scored a line one inch from the end of each of the envelopes which serves as the book's binding. This is where I punched the holes for the brads.

Each layout is 2 envelopes with the opening on the left side.
I chose muted pattern papers and trimmed them to about 2"x6". Then I placed a photo and journaling on each side.

I placed trip themed stickers and rub ons here and there-
see them along the photos and on the envelope flap?

Each envelope has a pull-out with more photos, journaling, and memorabilia.

On each envelope flap, I used a circle punch to punch half a circle out to expose a circle sticker.

I was able to fit 18 photos on the pages with even more photos on the envelope inserts.

Because there's journaling on every page, I was able to include lots of stories from our trip.
When we travel, I try to jot notes down during the trip so I don't forget the little details.

The left side is the last envelope in the book. The right side is the back cover. I used the same design on it as I did on the interior pages which gave me room for two last photos and some more journaling.

I always love to use envelopes to make albums.
Every time I come across a new big envelope at work, my hands itch to fold it into a book!

I hope you're able to take some of this information and use it to make a book of your own.

If you like the idea of using envelopes to make a mini album, go here for another version.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ
